The Florida Atlantic recruit was happy to be named second-team all-state by The Associated Press, finish fourth in the voting for Mr. Basketball and be selected for the Indiana All-Stars. Bloomington South’s Anthony Leal, a 6-foot-5 guard and an Indiana recruit, was named Mr. Basketball. But Davis, a 6-3 senior guard who averaged 31 points, is sad that the All-Star games against Kentucky won’t be played. The games were canceled Thursday because of the coronavirus pandemic. The games were supposed to be played June 5-6. The Junior All-Star games also were canceled. Merrillville’s Keon Thompson and Lowell’s Chris Mantis were selected as Junior All-Stars. “It hurts a lot,” Davis said. “I just wanted to play in one more high school game. It was something I won’t be able to do in my life again.” According to the Indianapolis Star, which sponsors Mr. Basketball, Davis was named on 22 of the 236 ballots. Lawrence North’s Tony Perkins was second, and Culver Academies’ Trey Galloway was third. Leal was named on 103 ballots. Thompson, a 6-3 guard who averaged 30 points and 10 rebounds, was named third-team all-state by AP.
