Palm Beach International Airport is slated to receive $36.6 million in federal assistance as part of Washington’s response to the coronavirus pandemic. The money is part of the Coronavirus Aid, Relief, and Economic Security Act (CARES Act), approve dby Congress and signed into law last month by President Donald Trump. Some $10 billion is being awarded to commercial and general aviation airports nationwide, according to U.S. Transportation Secretary Elaine Chao. The grants are intended to support continuing operations and replace lost revenue resulting from the falloff in passenger traffic and airport business due to the pandemic. >>Real estate deals in peril amid buyer fears The money can be used for airport capital expenditures, airport operating expenses, including payroll and utilities, as well as airport debt payments. Other airports in Palm Beach County are slated for grants as well.
