Feeding South Florida will hold a free food giveaway on Monday in Pompano Beach. The drive-thru-style distribution is to help give food away, while adhering to social distancing measures as encouraged by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention to help stop the spread of the new coronavirus. The giveaway will take place from 10 a.m. to noon, Monday, at Hopewell Missionary Baptist Church, 890 NW 15th St., Pompano Beach. The organization said it will be giving out fresh produce, protein, dairy and shelf-stable items. The event is one of over 20 that Feeding South Florida is doing in partnership with local churches and municipalities in Miami-Dade, Broward and Palm Beach counties. Pompano Commissioner Beverly Perkins teamed up with the organization for the Pompano event. Feeding South Florida said it has seen a 600% increase in demand for food since the COVID-19 pandemic began and that it has distributed over 9 million pounds of food in South Florida to 160,000 households, including an additional 130 food distributions on top of what it normally distributes.
