FORT MYERS, FL. (February 12, 2019) – The Fiddlesticks Community recently concluded their 20th United Way Campaign, and announced that the community had raised over $3 million for the United Way.
Fiddlesticks Campaign Chair Ann Deming made the announcement after the Fiddlesticks Leadership Givers Golf Tournament, and thanked founding campaign chair Jack Rogers. Rogers and a few of his friends who were also Fiddlesticks residents started the campaign in 1999. That 1st year they raised $18,390. This year, the 2018-2019 Fiddlesticks United Way Campaign raised over $182,700.
Deming also announced that nine residents gave $10,000 or more to the current campaign, and became members of the Alexis de Tocqueville Society of the United Way. Forty-eight residents gave $1,000 or more to the campaign and became members of the United Way’s Keel Club.
“The enthusiasm and hard work of the Fiddlesticks Community has resulted in a great tradition of giving and caring about our community.” said Cliff Smith, President of the United Way of Lee, Hendry, Glades, and Okeechobee. “Thank you to all of the residents who have contributed over the past 20 years and demonstrated their commitment to make our community a better place for all.”
The United Way of Lee, Hendry, Glades, and Okeechobee has raised and distributed over $167 million since it was established in 1957. All money raised in the United Way campaign stays in the local community to help support the local human service network. United Way Partner Agencies and initiatives include: Alvin A Dubin Alzheimer’s Resource Center, Partners for Breast Cancer Care, Harry Chapin Food Bank, Boys and Girls Clubs, and United Way 211, to mention a few. These agencies serve a diverse range of needs in our community such as nurturing children and youth, strengthening families, and meeting critical needs like helping the elderly and disabled live independently, and empowering communities by bringing health and human services to neighborhoods.
In addition to raising funds for human service organizations in our community, the United Way promotes partnerships and collaborations among agencies and initiatives, helping them to work together focusing on issues and solutions that continue to improve lives.
