Former Henninger High School center Quincy Ballard announces he will attend Florida State

Quincy Ballard is a 7-foot center in the 2020 recruiting class. The former Henninger High School player has spent the last two years at Quality Education Academy in Winston-Salem, N.C. Syracuse, N.Y. ― Quincy Ballard, the former Henninger High School center, will attend Florida State. Ballard made the announcement on Saturday in a social-distancing appropriate ceremony at his family’s home in Clay. Ballard, a 7-foot, 240-pound center, picked Florida State out of a list of finalists that also included Syracuse, Cincinnati, Maryland and North Carolina State. Photo by Mike Waters. “It’s a great school,” Ballard said of his choice of Florida State. “I know the head coach (Leonard Hamiton) knows how to care of me and help me improve as a player.” Ballard made the announcement in a social-distancing press conference outside of his home in the Town of Clay on Saturday morning. Family and friends sat in folding chairs in the cul de sac while neighbors stood at the ends of their driveways. Ballard used a microphone attached to a speaker to announce his choice. A month ago, Ballard had zero scholarship offers from Power Five schools, but he had been receiving a lot of attention from college basketball recruiters recently. Syracuse, Maryland and N.C. State all offered scholarships within the past week. The coronavirus pandemic prevented Ballard from visiting any colleges this spring. However, he was in Tallahassee, Fla., a year ago for a basketball tournament.
