Amazing music is all in the family |
Long-time principal flutist Bill Larsen has played with the Southwest Florida Symphony since 1983! Beth Larsen, Bill’s wife of 25 years, joined our symphony orchestra family in 1993 as Second flute/Piccolo. They both also operate successful flute studios in Fort Myers, Naples, and Bill at FSW. The Larsen Flute Studio has been producing Lee County’s finest flutists for more than 20 years. Their flute studio is open to students of all age levels. Bill also started his own business—Iris Custom Crowns—designing, refining, and handcrafting the end pieces for flute and piccolos to great acclaim from friends and peers. For many years, Bill has also chosen to play a wooden instrument for “better tone colors, blending, and flexibility,” which was standard until about 150 years ago when metal flutes became popular. Look for Bill and Beth back on stage with the Southwest Florida Symphony Orchestra for our upcoming 60th Anniversary season! Catch Bill & Beth on YouTube Hear the Larsens perform Telemann‘s Canonic Sonata in D major, first movement. Since it’s a canon, they both play exactly the same part—just four beats apart! Listen. |
