Lehigh Regional Medical Center is proud to announce that they are once again recipients of the Healthgrades 2020 Patient Safety Excellence Award . Lehigh Regional Medical Center previously received this honor in 2019.
The Healthgrades Patient Safety Excellence Award honors medical centers that are considered top in the nation for providing excellence in patient safety by preventing infections, medical errors and other preventable complications This recognition places the hospital in the top 10% or top 5% of hospitals nationwide for patient safety.
“We are honored to share the exciting news that we have received this esteemed award for the second year in a row,” said Jacklyn Arsenault, Director for Business Development at Lehigh Regional Medical Center. “This award demonstrates our continued commitment to healthcare services, focused heartfelt compassion, and an unwavering commitment to your safety and well-being for all members of our community. Our entire staff of medical leaders and our partners at Prime Healthcare will continue to follow through on our promises to you, we are servant leaders, we do the right things and we never settle.”
Healthgrades is the leading online resource for comprehensive and objective information about physicians and hospitals. Healthgrades awards tell you which hospitals deliver superior quality care and evaluate hospital performance using objective quality measures including clinical outcomes and patient safety, as well as patient experience.
To determine award-winners, Healthgrades first determines what conditions a patient has or procedures performed to identify patient-like groups using ICD-9 and ICD-10 codes or in some cases DRGs. The model outcomes reflect clinical-based measures of patient disposition during and aftercare and include in-hospital complications or in-hospital and 30-day post-admission mortality. Next, the current condition of the patient is evaluated and discover more about how their illness could possibly affect the outcome of the condition/procedure. Then the hospital’s predicted outcome rate is determined by summing the individual patient predicted values for each hospital. Last, using a statistical test, the outcome of the patient’s procedure is compared to the actual outcome for each hospital with that same hospital’s predicted outcome. A star rating is then assigned based on whether the hospital performed statistically better than, the same as, or worse than the predicted outcome.
“Congratulations to all of the Lehigh Regional Medical Center clients on this well-deserved recognition,” said Beth Nikels, the Vice President Marketing and Communications for Prime Healthcare. “36 of our 42 hospitals (over 85% of Prime hospitals) received the *Healthgrades 2020 Patient Safety Excellence Award. This is an incredible demonstration of the continued effort and improvement across Prime.”
