Get to know Galen!
ONE MAN BAND! Check out Principal Second Violinist Galen Kaup’s awesome Otamatone video of him playing numerous parts of Jupiter from Holst’s The Planets simultaneously. His Otamatone, (named Automaton!) is a Japanese electronic musical instrument/toy, which uses a “fingerboard” similar to the violin but smaller, so it cross-trains with the violin.
Galen joined the Southwest Florida Symphony in 2008, from Orlando and Indiana University. He still laughs remembering the SWFLSO 50th anniversary Beethoven Symphony performance with reverb on a mic accidentally left on, and is currently enjoying the low gas prices and traffic levels.
His creativity and varied talents draw many views and followers to his YouTube channel. Galen’s broad talents are a sample of the gifts you’ll enjoy this season as the Southwest Florida Symphony again takes the stage!
Watch Galen on his Youtube channel as he performs Holst’s The Planets.
