A seven-day curfew in Broward County, ordering residents to stay indoors from 9 p.m. to 6 a.m., began Sunday night , although it can be shortened or extended at any time. Broward County Administrator Bertha Henry imposed the curfew in response to “ growing civil unrest ” that the county said could “potentially threaten the health, safety and welfare” of the public. West Palm Beach issued a 72-hour curfew from 9 p.m. to 6 a.m. beginning Sunday. Fort Lauderdale also issued a 72-hour curfew on Sunday and threatened to arrest violators. In Miami-Dade, a seven-day curfew was put into effect Saturday night, but it was extended Sunday until further notice. Beaches, which were supposed to open Monday, will remain closed. Across the country, peaceful protests over the death of George Floyd at the hands of police officers in Minneapolis turned violent over the weekend, leading to clashes between protesters and police in riot gear. No one is allowed to use any street or sidewalk for any purpose, except for active duty police, fire rescue, first responders and medical, health care and utility service personnel. People are allowed to travel directly to and from their home to their place of employment. Residents are permitted to walk their dogs or other pets within 250 feet of their homes.
