The Southwest Florida Concert Band will perform a concert In Celebration of Music on Sunday March 24, at 2:00 P.M. at South Fort Myers High School, 14020 Plantation Rd, Fort Myers, FL 33912.
Our 50 member community band will open the concert with an arrangement of Music for a Darkened Theater by Danny Elfman. The band will play Clare Grundman’s lilting Irish Rhapsody and a melodic trombone solo of O’Danny Boy to celebrate St. Patrick’s Day, and then add in a little Barry Manilow tune called Copacabana that will be hard to sit still for. Our guest vocalist, Kathy Lamade, will sing the emotional You Raise Me Up and there will be an impressive solo based on the Italian melody Napoli. The band will play a jaunty Irish march and a very powerful overture on the western theme from Silverado. The program will also include memorable music from the film Guardians of the Galaxy that feature the songs Hooked on a Feeling, Come and Get Your Love, Ain’t No Mountain High Enough and more. The show will conclude with a fun, moving piece called the Great Locomotive Chase. The brass performance group the Brass Monkeys will also show up to perform one or two numbers.
The wide variety of music is certain to appeal to all audience members and it is a not to be missed concert of the newest concert band in Southwest Florida.
All concerts are FREE with donations accepted. Information on the group, our scholarship program, and other performances can be found on our website.
