Winds Of Fall 2019 – Lehigh Acres Prepares For The Season

By Mike Welch
At this writing our community is indeed looking forward to Season 2019. The hint of fall is in the air. Our public works projects continue to march on. We will all be happy and relieved when Homestead Road is completed – a complicated project that involves an intricate storm water system under and adjacent to the new and renovated roadway system.
SR82 is moving along well and is proving to be a key to good economic development that will serve both Lehigh Acres and Gateway well – not to mention addressing fatalities.
In addition our community based efforts for preparation for a storm/hurricane have proven to be beneficial as Hurricane Dorian was a “dry-run” for our local agencies as well as with the County Government and not to mention our local hospital.
LOCAL CHAMBER OF COMMERCE!
Watch for new and exciting news about our Chamber of Commerce! The Lehigh Acres Chamber of Commerce is well on its feet with increased membership and the work of many reforms if it is to play a role in assisting local business, influencing economic development and the general progress of our community.
Mark your calendars: Saturday, January 18 at 6:00 p.m. will be the Annual Chamber Gala to be held at the Plantation Golf & Country Club in Gateway.
PREPARING FOR THE HOLIDAYS!
Over the next few months we will be highlighting our service organizations for our general information and for our returning part-time residents. This month Major Brenda Lane of the Salvation Army’s Lehigh Service Center gives us an update and great information regarding the programs the Army offers to our residents. The Army partners with our other agencies in town to service our residents in need. If you also have time to volunteer with the Army please give Major Brenda a call at 239-491-6071.
INTRODUCING REPRESENTATIVE RAY RODRIGUES
November 2020 will be a time of transition with one of our state senators, Senator Lizbeth Benacquisto completing her time in office due to term limits. Our Lee County Delegation works hard together for our county as a whole and this is particularly true for State Representative Ray Rodrigues who is a friend of Lehigh Acres and is not unfamiliar with our community. I have invited him to offer us a column introducing himself to us and I have no doubt many of us will be happy to meet him as he learns even more about our community. He will make a great addition for the representation of Lehigh Acres/Eastern Lee County along with Senator Kathleen Passidomo and Representative Spencer Roach. We will be well represented in Tallahasee.
