I recently sponsored an event with 200 very conservative attendees. During the course of the event, people shared their opinions about supporting small businesses, protecting our freedom of religion, and several other conservative beliefs.
When someone mentioned that they would not order from Amazon, because Amazon had made it difficult for the small businesses to survive, I agreed. I then asked if they owned Amazon within their investment portfolio. People responded that they had no idea if they owned Amazon, as their “Advisor” handled those issues.
The same issue with a myriad of different topics including Prolife. The observation made regarding these conversations is that even the most profound activists may not be aware that they own companies within their investments that support or profit from activities that are contrary to their beliefs.
Should we allow worldview advice to infiltrate our stewardship? As an advisor for 25 years, it is my perception that most stewards neglect the important task God has entrusted us to perform. Can we classify ourselves as good stewards if we own companies that support and profit from murdering unborn children, the porn industry, child labor, anti-family entertainment, and other activities that create victims? We must be proactive on these issues.
