Next month’s roster of activities at Lakes Regional Library offers topics for all ages. The following activities are free to the public:
English Café: 6p.m. Mondays, Jan. 10, 24, 31. Free informal, conversation sessions for adult ESOL/ESL students.
Elvis Presley’s 87th Birthday Bash: 2p.m. Saturday, Jan. 8 Join performer Dave Deluca for this tribute to Elvis Presley’s first decade of hits as we ring in The King’s 87th birthday. Registration is requested.
Ruth Bader Ginsburg “I Dissent” Performance: 2p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 11 Ruth Bader Ginsburg is performed by actor Sheryl Faye. Ginsburg was an American lawyer and jurist who served as an associate justice of the Supreme Court of the United States from 1993 until her death in September 2020. She was not afraid to dissent, disapprove and disagree with conditions of unfairness and inequality. This show is the inspiring story of how she changed her life and ours. Registration is requested.
Download Drop-In: 11a.m. Thursday, Jan. 20 Receive personalized help downloading e-books, movies, music and more from Overdrive and Hoopla, two of Lee County Library System’s largest online content providers. Bring your fully charged digital device for this hands-on help session.
John Russell Magic Show: 2p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 25 John Russell specializes in family-friendly magical entertainment. He brings a fresh delivery of classic magic effects to today’s audiences. This show will be high energy, interactive and sure to delight. Registration is requested.
CHILDREN’S PROGRAMS
Baby Rhyme Time: 10 a.m. Mondays, Jan. 10, 24, 31 For babies up to 18 months. Babies and caregivers wiggle and giggle in a supportive environment. Space is limited. First come, first served.
Toddler Tales: 11 a.m. Mondays, Jan. 10, 24, 31 For ages 18-36 months and caregivers. Toddlers and caregivers move and groove during this interactive storytime.
Family Storytime: 10a.m. Wednesdays, Jan. 12, 19, 26 For children through age 5 and caregivers. Families with young children enjoy a variety of stories, songs, rhymes and movement.
Preschool Storytime: 11a.m. Wednesdays, Jan. 12, 19, 26 For ages 3-5. Children attend this program independently while parents and caregivers wait nearby.
All-Abilities Kids Storytime: 10 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 8 For ages 3-12 and caregivers. This storytime emphasizes books, music and sensory experiences designed for children with adaptive needs and their families. Using visual schedule boards, stories are told through multiple modalities. This creates a positive storytime experience in a quieter environment with reduced sensory stimuli. Class size is limited to 10 children, plus their parents or caregivers.
Kids Read Down Fines: 2 – 3p.m. Saturday, Jan. 15 Children and teens can earn a $2 credit on overdue fines for every 15 minutes they read in the designated area for a total of $8 in one session. Please bring your library card.
Braided Bracelets: 4 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 20 Join us for a simple bracelet braiding craft. Make one for yourself and one for a friend. For ages 5-11. While supplies last.
Kids Collage Art: 4 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 26 Make fun art to decorate your bedroom using recycled magazines. Space is limited. While supplies last. For ages 5-11.
TEEN PROGRAMS
Teen Leadership: 2 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 8 Be a driving force at your local library. An exciting opportunity for teens interested in leadership and teamwork. Earn service hours while collaborating on teen programming and services with peers. Participants will earn service hours for attending and snacks will be provided. For ages 12-18.
