Moving Into The Summer Season: Being Prepared For Hurricane Season

At this writing NOAA indicates an historic number of storms that will develop this year due to warmer climate conditions in the Atlantic and Gulf of Mexico.  These past few years have been tragic for many citizens in Florida – Hurricane Irma in 2017 and just recently Hurricane Ian.  The lesson of not being prepared should be imprinted on us and now is the time to prepare.  Take a look at the Hurricane Information for Lee County Government at www.leegov.com  Make sure that you have all the information you need regarding help if you need it.  Remember the information and communication structures may just come down during and after the storm.  Additionally, our communities of the East have large populations of modest income of elderly citizens.  Many live alone.  Take it upon yourself as an act of kindness and charity to not leave them alone.

Our region has seen a number of spectacular crime sprees that include assaults, carjacking, and armed burglary.  In many instances these violent crimes happen as occasions of opportunity with unlocked vehicles in our driveways as well as unlocked doors at our homes.  In this month’s Voices of Lehigh Sheriff Marceno again asks us to be thoughtful and protective of our property.  I am sure that you will find his article interesting.

HOSTING A REGIONAL COMMUNITY LUNCHEON

On Monday, June 17th at 11:30 a.m. Lee County Commissioner Cecil Pendergrass will be hosting a regional luncheon at the Plantation Golf Club.  County Manager Dave Harner will also be presenting to the attendees the theme of “Lee County Moving Into the Future Together – The Value of Service.”  Given some discussion regarding the role of government and its services in our communities, the discussion should be informative.  The East Lee County Chamber is hosting the event.  Commissioner Pendergrass is a member of the Board of Directors of the Chamber.  Plan to attend by signing up at www.eastleechamber.com.
