The Civil Air Patrol (CAP), the official auxiliary of the United States Air Force, has announced the formation of the Lee County Composite Squadron. The newly established squadron, based at Page Field, will serve as a hub for leadership development, emergency services, and aerospace education.
Lieutenant Jesse Spencer, the squadron’s commander, emphasized CAP’s commitment to its three core missions:
-
- Cadet Programs: Providing youth aged 12-18 with opportunities to develop leadership, discipline, and personal growth.
-
- Emergency Services: Training members in vital ground and air search-and-rescue operations.
-
- Aerospace Education: Offering educational programs for members and the local community to inspire interest in aerospace science and technology.
The Lee County Composite Squadron welcomes both cadets (ages 12-18) and senior members. Participants hold ranks modeled after the United States Air Force, wearing official uniforms and progressing through a structured leadership system. Cadets can rise through various positions, including Flight Sergeant, First Sergeant, and Cadet Squadron Commander, while all members may earn Ground Team Member certifications based on their skills in search-and-rescue missions.
Many squadron members are already actively involved in community service. CAP cadets in neighboring Collier County collaborate with the Collier County Sheriff’s Office CERT team, volunteer at Honor Flights at Southwest Florida International Airport, and participate in ceremonial events honoring veterans and first responders.
To introduce the squadron and its programs, a formation meeting will be held on Thursday, December 7th, from 10:00 AM to 12:00 PM at the Fixed Base Operator (FBO) building at Page Field. Prospective members and community members are encouraged to attend to meet the squadron’s leadership and learn more about opportunities to get involved.
As a nonprofit organization dedicated to serving the community, the CAP aims to inspire leadership, enhance emergency preparedness, and foster a love for aerospace in Lee County and beyond.
