Next month’s roster of activities at Riverdale Public Library offers topics for all ages. The following activities are free to the public:
Adult Programs
Knit and Stitch
1 p.m. Wednesday, April 2, 16
A casual, self-guided group of knitters and crocheters that join to share projects, ideas and techniques. Participants are encouraged to bring their own projects and tools. Basic materials and supplies are available for newcomers.
Book Discussion: “Save Our Souls” by Matthew Pearl
10:30 a.m. Thursday, April 3
On Dec. 10, 1887, the Walker family’s shark fishing boat was split in two by a storm. They awoke in the morning on an island inhabited by a ragged man named Hans who seemed helpful but had a dark secret.
Curiosity Connection: Robotics
10:30 a.m. Wednesday, April 9
This month, we’ll discuss the current state and coming future of robotics technology and its potential impacts on society and our daily lives. Curiosity Connection offers adults in our community the opportunity to explore a new subject each month in arts, culture, science and technology by combining interactive presentations and hands-on experiences with open and engaging discussions. Participants will have the opportunity to shape future programs by providing monthly subject suggestions.
Recycled Paper Beads
10 a.m. Saturday, April 12
Join us as we transform old magazine pages into beautiful handmade paper beads. Participants will walk away with a unique piece of eco-friendly jewelry. All materials will be provided. This program is intended for ages 18 and up. Registration is required.
One Million Acts of Science: Backyard Pollinators
10 a.m. Saturday, April 19
Celebrate Citizen Science Month with a presentation on pollinators in our local ecosystem, led by master gardener Wendy Sprague. After the presentation, hand-paint a flowerpot and learn how to expand scientific understanding of the environment through SciStarter and the Great Sunflower Project. Seeds and materials will be provided. This program is intended for ages 18 and up.
Children’s Programs
Family Storytime
10 a.m. Friday, April 4, 11, 18
For children through age 5 years and caregivers. Families with young children enjoy a variety of stories, songs, rhymes and movement.
Homeschool Hangout: Safety with Lee County Sheriff’s Office
1 p.m. Thursday, April 24
Homeschoolers are invited to come and meet a member of the Lee County Sheriff’s Office to learn about safety. Topics such as “stranger danger,” who is a trusted adult, when to call 911, animal safety and more will be covered in this presentation.
Baby Rhyme Time
10 a.m. Friday, April 25
For babies up to 18 months. Babies and caregivers wiggle and giggle in a supportive environment. Space is limited. Arrive early and visit the Youth Desk to check in.
Earth Day STEM
11 a.m. Saturday, April 26
Celebrate our Earth through an engaging, hands-on program designed for school-age children to explore the wonders of our planet through science, technology, engineering and math (STEM). This program invites students to dive into environmental issues and solutions. For ages 6-11 years. Registration is required.
Teen Programs
Anime Hour
2:30 p.m. Tuesday, April 1
Enjoy an hour of anime entertainment, creative expression and lively discussions. This program is specially curated for anime enthusiasts to indulge in their passion for Japanese animation while hanging out among like-minded peers. Snacks provided and cosplay encouraged. For teens ages 12-18 years.
Dungeons and Dragons
2 p.m. Tuesday, April 8
Step into a world of adventure, strategy and fun with our D&D Guild Adventures. This program is perfect for teens ages 13-18 years who are excited to explore the imaginative realms of Dungeons & Dragons. Whether you’re a veteran player or a total newcomer, this program provides a thrilling and inclusive environment to join forces, face down fantastic creatures and navigate mysterious quests as part of a dynamic adventurer’s guild.
