Next month’s roster of activities at Riverdale Public Library offers topics for all ages. The following activities are free to the public:

Adult Programs

Knit and Stitch

1 p.m. Wednesday, June 4, 18

A casual, self-guided group of knitters and crocheters who join together to share projects, ideas and techniques. Participants are encouraged to bring their own projects and tools. Basic materials and supplies are available for newcomers.

Book Discussion: “Children of Radium” by Joe Dunthorne

10:30 a.m. Thursday, June 5

When novelist and poet Joe Dunthorne began researching his family history, he expected to write the account of their heroic escape from Nazi Germany in 1935. Instead, what he found in his great-grandfather’s voluminous, unpublished, partially translated memoir was a much darker, more complicated story.

Spanish Conversation Club

6 p.m. Tuesday, June 10

Improve your fluency by chatting with other adults. Join us as we practice speaking Spanish with others on a variety of topics. Intermediate to advanced Spanish-speaking skills are recommended to get the most out of the session. Registration is required.

Children’s Programs

Summer Reading Kickoff Party

1 – 3 p.m. Saturday, June 7

This summer let’s “Color Our World.” We are kicking off our summer reading program with fun activities such as Sphero painting and character meet-and-greets. Receive a free book (while supplies last) and learn how you can sign up for this summer’s reading adventure.

Ranger Rob: Amazing Adaptations

2 p.m. Thursday, June 12

For ages 6-11 years. Local naturalist Ranger Rob’s captivating presentation is specially designed for curious minds, bringing the fascinating stories of animals and their unique survival strategies to life. Adaptations will focus on the five senses and putting yours to the test.

Play-Doh Playdate

10 a.m. Friday, June 13

Toddlers and preschoolers are invited for a morning of squishy, Play-Doh fun. Registration is not required, but space is limited. First come, first served.

Magically Ever After: Color Our World

2 p.m. Thursday, June 19

Spend a magical moment with ChaChing the Amazing Bunny and her best friend, James the Unbelievable. Mixing equal parts imagination, storytelling and magic, “Magically Ever After – Color Our World” is a colorful fun-filled summer reading program packed with laughter, silliness and lots of audience participation. For ages 6-11 years.

Symphony Storytime

10 a.m. Friday, June 20

Join us for a special summer reading storytime featuring a musician from the Gulf Coast Symphony. Preschoolers will enjoy live music, learn about an instrument and engage in stories, songs and movement.

Storytelling with Windell Campbell

2 p.m. Thursday, June 26

Experience the art of puppetry combined with the art of storytelling. This summer reading program uses songs, props and audience participation to bring stories to life. For ages 6-11 years.

Building Buddies

10 a.m. Friday, June 27

This program places a strong emphasis on social skill development, recognizing the importance of interpersonal relationships in early childhood education. Through collaborative block-building activities, children will learn to share, take turns and work together toward common goals, laying the foundation for positive social interactions.

Teen Programs

Create with Art Lab

2 p.m. Tuesday, June 10

Make creativity part of your family routine with the Alliance for the Arts Family Art Lab. Join us for a hands-on art project and explore various mediums, styles and artists – all inspired by artworks on view in the Alliance for the Arts gallery. Dress for mess. For ages 12-18 years.

Parrots Uncovered: What Everyone Should Know

2 p.m. Tuesday, June 17

Join the Parrot Outreach Society from Punta Gorda and learn about their dedication to enhancing the lives of parrots. These amazing creatures are highly intelligent, very social and complex beings. You will gain an understanding of how special they are and get the opportunity to interact with them. Materials will be provided to sketch what you see. For ages 12-18 years.

Art With Ocasiocasa

2 p.m. Tuesday, June 24

Join us for a mini art workshop with local artists Jeff and Dale Ocasio of Ocasiocasa. Jeff will demonstrate his sculptural techniques with masking tape, share his unique and quirky characters, talk about their journey into art and each student will get to create their own sculpted rose. No experience necessary. For ages 12-18 years. Registration is required.
