Next month’s roster of activities at Riverdale Public Library offers topics for all ages. The following activities are free to the public:
Adult Programs
Knit and Stitch
1 p.m. Wednesday, July 2, 16
A casual, self-guided group of knitters and crocheters share projects, ideas and techniques. Participants are encouraged to bring their own projects and tools. Basic materials and supplies are available for newcomers.
Spanish Conversation Club
6 p.m. Tuesday, July 8
Are you ready to take your Spanish-speaking skills to the next level? Improve your fluency by chatting with other adults. Join us as we practice speaking Spanish with others on a variety of topics. Intermediate to advanced Spanish-speaking skills are recommended in order to get the most out of the session. Registration is required.
Gel Plate Printing
10 a.m. Saturday, July 19
Try your hand at creating artistic prints with acrylic paint, found objects and Gelli Arts gel plates. No experience is necessary. Dress for mess. This program is intended for patrons 18 and older. Registration is required.
Children’s Programs
Bilingual Music and Games with Evan and Vanessa
2 p.m. Thursday, July 10
Join Evan and Vanessa (hosts of the children’s Spanish learning podcast “Eat Your Spanish”) for a fun and interactive summer reading performance where they’ll share their favorite bilingual songs, fun stories and interactive games. For ages 6-11 years.
Shark Week Craft
10 a.m. Friday, July 11
Celebrate Shark Week with a fin-tastic craft and activities designed for our littlest crafters. This program is perfect for young children who love the ocean and want to learn more about sharks in a fun and creative way. Parents are encouraged to join in on the crafting fun.
Super Science & Amazing Art
2 p.m. Thursday, July 17
Join Super Scientist and Amazing Artist Mr. Glen in experiments exploring the dynamics of light. Play with pigments, polymers and prisms to make slime rainbows, combine light and paint and create smart works of art. Your hair will stand on end when studying lightning plasma and the Thomas Edison Light Bulb. For ages 6-11 years.
Family Storytime
10 a.m. Friday, July 18
Join us for a vibrant and fun-filled family storytime as we explore the colors of the rainbow. We’ll read enchanting stories, sing colorful songs and enjoy interactive activities that celebrate the seven beautiful colors of the rainbow.
SWFL Shells 101
2 p.m. Thursday, July 24
Join a shell expert from Bailey-Matthews National Shell Museum & Aquarium for an interactive program about SWFL’s local shells. The program will start with a brief presentation about mollusks followed by a shell identification activity. At the end of the program, participants will have the opportunity to touch a live mollusk. Each participant will receive a shell guide and bag of shells to keep. For ages 6-11 years. Supplies are limited, so pre-registration is required.
Puppet Play
10 a.m. Friday, July 25
Preschool children and caregivers can explore the elements of early literacy using puppets. This fun and engaging program encourages imagination, phonemic awareness, vocabulary development and comprehension.
Teen Programs
Teen Totes
2 p.m. Tuesday, July 8
Create a custom tote bag using acrylic paints. This project can be completed using the provided stencils, but you are encouraged to get creative and make your own designs. Seats are limited, so pre-registration is required. For ages 12-18 years.
Nintendo Switch Teen Tournament
2 p.m. Tuesday, July 15
Calling all teen gamers and adventure seekers. Get ready to embark on an epic gaming journey. Whether you’re a seasoned gamer or just starting out, this program is designed to showcase your gaming prowess in friendly challenges that test your strategy, reflexes and creativity. For ages 12-18 years.
Comic Book Workshop
2 p.m. Tuesday, July 22
Dive into exciting worlds of comics and creativity. At this interactive and highly engaging experience, participants will explore storytelling through drawing, music, juggling and other magical surprises. For ages 12-18 years.
