Next month’s roster of activities at Riverdale Public Library offers topics for all ages. The following activities are free to the public:

Adult Programs

Knit and Stitch

1 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 7, 21

A casual, self-guided group for knitting, crochet and other needle arts. Join in to share projects, ideas and techniques. Participants are encouraged to bring their own projects and tools. Basic materials and supplies are available for newcomers.

Book Discussion: “The Secret Christmas Library” by Jenny Colgan

10:30 a.m. Thursday, Jan. 8

Hired to uncover a legendary book that could save a crumbling Scottish estate, antiquarian book hunter Mirren Sutherland joins a charming laird and her rival in a snowbound castle, where secrets, clues and unexpected sparks make for a festive literary treasure hunt.

Arts and Crafts Makertime

10:30 a.m. Thursday, Jan. 29

Enjoy a casual drop-in crafting session with fellow adult artists and crafters of all kinds. Bring your own projects and supplies or get creative with our media and materials. Staff will be on hand to answer questions about our materials and recommend resources to enhance your skills or expand your arts and crafts repertoire.

Children’s Programs

Barnyard Bash

10 a.m. Friday, Jan. 9

Moo-ve on over to the Riverdale Library for a fun-filled barnyard-themed event designed just for little ones. Children through age 5 years and their caregivers are invited to join us for a playful morning of pretend play, sensory exploration and farmyard fun.

Family Storytime

10 a.m. Friday, Jan. 16, 23, 30

10 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 24

For children through age 5 years with a caregiver. Enjoy books, rhymes, songs and activities. This fun and engaging program offers kids a chance to make friends and build skills through stories, music and movement. Caregivers participate with their children while learning helpful early literacy strategies and tips to continue at home.

Mario Kart Tournament

1 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 17

Get ready to partake in fun and friendly Mario Kart races, where you can show off your gaming skills and enjoy some friendly competition. Whether you’re a seasoned racer or a newcomer, this tournament is designed to be fun for all levels. This program is intended for children ages 6-11 years.

Lego Club

1 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 31

This is a fun, hands-on experience designed for school-age children, ages 6 -12 years, who love to create, imagine and explore. This unstructured, drop-in style program encourages kids to use their creativity and problem-solving skills while building unique structures, scenes and inventions with Lego bricks.

Teen Programs

Anime Hour

2:30 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 6

Enjoy an hour of anime entertainment, creative expression and lively discussions. This program is specially curated for anime enthusiasts to indulge in their passion for Japanese animation while hanging out among like-minded peers. Snacks provided and cosplay encouraged. This program is for teens ages 12-18 years.
