48 senior residents of the River Hall Cascades 55+ Community recently gathered for an engaging and highly praised “AI & ChatGPT for Beginners” introduction and workshop conducted by Cascades resident Rich Erschik, a well-known international online instructor and educator.
Designed specifically for beginners, the session explained what ChatGPT is, where it came from, and—most importantly—how residents can use it in everyday life. Practical examples showed how AI can assist with writing, planning, learning, problem-solving, and creative projects, as well as dieting and health monitoring.
Attendees responded enthusiastically to the plain-English approach and real-world demonstrations, which removed much of the intimidation often associated with technology and artificial intelligence. Rather than focusing on technical theory, the workshop emphasized immediate, practical use—helping residents see AI as a helpful tool rather than a confusing technology.
One resident offered especially high praise, saying:
“This presenter and presentation were the best I have seen in my lifetime.”
As both a Cascades resident and a popular online instructor, Erschik brought a unique combination of community connection and teaching experience to the session. The strong turnout and active participation reflected a growing interest among 55+ adults to better understand emerging technologies and how to use them with confidence.
Given the success of the workshop, additional AI and technology education sessions are being considered for the River Hall and surrounding communities.
