LCEC Urges Members to Conserve Energy During Cold Snap

lcec-elcn

Due to the extreme cold warning in Florida, LCEC is asking members to take simple conservation steps over the next few days. These actions will help maintain regional grid reliability. Usage is currently higher as a result of more residents and businesses utilizing heaters.

Heating can cost three times more than cooling and significantly increases energy usage. LCEC recommends alternative ways to stay warm while keeping your energy costs low:

  • When using heat in the home, LCEC energy experts recommend keeping the thermostat no higher than 68 degrees Fahrenheit.
  • Reverse ceiling fan direction to help to distribute heat around larger rooms.
  • Take shorter showers to reduce hot water heater usage.
  • Dress in layers.
  • Consider using a small portable space heater or electric blanket to save on heating costs. Read and abide by safety precautions.
  • Close blinds and curtains in the evening to retain indoor heat, open during the day to take advantage of the sun.
  • Delay the use of large appliances such as dishwashers, dryers, and pool pumps and turn off non-essential lighting and electronics to conserve energy.

By following these simple tips, members can stay comfortable and reduce energy consumption during the cold days. For more energy-saving tips, visit www.lcec.net.
