Next month’s roster of activities at Riverdale Public Library offers topics for all ages. The following activities are free to the public:
Adult Programs
Knit and Stitch
1 p.m. Wednesday, June 3, 17
A casual, self-guided group for knitting, crochet and other needle arts. Join in to share projects, ideas and techniques. Participants are encouraged to bring their own projects and tools. Basic materials and supplies are available for newcomers.
Book Discussion: “Women of a Promiscuous Nature” by Donna Everhart
10:30 a.m. Thursday, June 4
Accused of “promiscuity” in 1940s North Carolina, a young woman unjustly incarcerated and subjected to involuntary medical treatment at The State Industrial Farm Colony for Women decides to fight back in this powerful novel based on the long-buried history of the American Plan, the government program designed to regulate women’s bodies and sexuality throughout the first half of the 20th century.

This summer let’s “Unearth a Story.” We are kicking off our Summer Reading program with fun activities such as dinosaur footprint painting, balloon animals, smile sensory bins and photo opportunities. Children and teens will receive a free book while supplies last. Learn how you can sign up for this summer’s reading adventure.
Coloring Club
2 p.m. Saturday, June 20
Join us for a relaxing afternoon of coloring while making new friends. All supplies will be provided, but feel free to bring your own coloring books.
Fab 5 Presidents
10:30 a.m. Wednesday, June 24
Journey through the pivotal chapters of American history by examining five transformative administrations. This program considers George Washington, Thomas Jefferson, Abraham Lincoln, Theodore Roosevelt and Franklin D. Roosevelt, analyzing their unique contributions to the American story. This program is a part of the America250 celebration.

Ranger Rob: Discover How You Affect the World
2 p.m. Thursday, June 11
Enjoy a special summer reading program from local naturalist Ranger Rob. His engaging presentation is designed for curious minds, bringing a hands-on experience for the whole family to uncover just what a large impact our small actions can have on the world around us.
Building Buddies
10 a.m. Friday, June 12
This summer reading program places a strong emphasis on social skill development, recognizing the importance of interpersonal relationships in early childhood education. Through collaborative block-building activities, children will learn to share, take turns and work together toward common goals, laying the foundation for positive social interactions.
Mr. Glen and the Readers of the Lost Book
2 p.m. Thursday, June 18
Join Mr. Glen on his quest to repair a childhood storybook where the pages have been strewn throughout the world. Learn about fossils, landforms, geology, and earth’s place in the galaxy. Using simple machines, we will solve problems and reveal the locations of each missing page in this adventurous summer reading program.
Puppet Playdate
10 a.m. Friday, June 19
Preschool children and caregivers can explore the elements of early literacy using puppets. This program encourages imagination, vocabulary development and comprehension in a fun and engaging environment.

Big Stories, Big Science with IMAG
2 p.m. Thursday, June 25
IMAG joins the library for a fiery summer reading program. Get ready for a messy, hair-raising, explosive, freezing and thrilling show. Watch IMAG create colorful fireballs, ignite giant Whoosh Tubes, light bubbles on fire in their hands, erupt a giant bubbling Nitrogen cloud, create arcs of lightning with their Van de Graff Machine and more.
A Royal Storytime
10 a.m. Friday, June 26
Experience magical moments at our Royal storytime. This enchanting summer reading program is filled with fun while listening to stories, singing songs and participating in princess and knight training to become royalty. For children through age 5 years.

Teen Slime Lab
2 p.m. Tuesday, June 9
Teens will experiment with making a variety of slimes – from fluffy and stretchy to glossy and crunchy – while learning what makes each recipe work. Teens can mix colors, test textures and customize their creations to take home. Expect a little mess, a lot of creativity and tons of sensory fun during this slimy summer reading program. Registration is required.
Discover Bunny Yoga and Mindfulness
2 p.m. Tuesday, June 16
This summer reading program begins with a 10-minute vibe check where we introduce mindful breathing and check-in with our bodies and minds. Practice includes various movements and deep breathing, with the last 10 minutes being full relaxation. Bunnies will be free-roaming, and you will be able to gently pet and interact with them. Bring a towel or yoga mat. Dress for comfort. Registration is required.

Tiny Book Workshop

What’s better than your favorite book? A tiny version of your favorite book. Join us for this creative summer reading program and learn the basics of book binding and create miniature versions of popular titles. All supplies provided. Registration is required.
