Adult Programs
Let’s Play: End of Summer Bash
3 p.m. Monday, Aug. 4
Calling gaming enthusiasts of all ages. Join friends and friendly competitors alike for games of strategy, chance and fun. Bring your own game or choose from the library’s collection of chess sets, card games, board games, role playing games and more. This week only, we’ll be featuring some special surprises for our gamers as we close out the summer and get ready for the school year.
East County Craft Club: Air Plant Hangers
2 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 9
Enjoy an instructor-led class where we will combine shells, beads and air plants to make tropical air plant hangers unique to Southwest Florida. Registration is required. This program is intended for ages 18 and up. In-person attendance closes 15 minutes into the program.

Knit and Stitch

A casual, self-guided group of knitters and crocheters who join together to share projects, ideas and techniques. Participants are encouraged to bring their own projects and tools. Basic materials and supplies are available for newcomers.
Download Drop-In
11 a.m. Thursday, Aug. 21
Receive personalized help downloading eBooks, eAudioBooks, movies, music and more from Libby/OverDrive and hoopla, two of Lee County Library System’s largest online content providers. Support also will be available to registered users of the National Library Service’s Braille and Audio Reading Download service (BARD) which is provided through Home Borrower Services and Lee County Talking Books. Note: Attendees should bring their preferred, charged device (tablet, phone, e-reader, etc) along with any passwords needed to download apps. Kindle users also must have an Amazon account and password. Patrons interested in BARD should contact Talking Books at 239-533-4780 prior to attending to ensure they have an active account or find out how to set one up.
All Aboard with LeeTran

Get ready for a lively session with LeeTran. Learn about Lee County transportation services available in your area, get your questions answered and enjoy a thrilling game of BINGO. It’s the perfect mix of information, fun and community connection. Registration is required.

Big Feelings, Tiny Bodies
10:30 a.m. Wednesday, Aug. 6, 20
Children ages 2-5 years and their caregivers are invited to a playful and interactive session designed to explore and understand emotions. The session will be engaging and interactive for kids and a great introduction to helping them manage feelings like frustration, sadness, excitement and joy. Come join us for a fun and educational time.
Kids Read Down Fines

11 a.m. – Noon Saturday, Aug. 9
Children and teens can earn a credit for every 15 minutes they read in the designated area for a total of $8 in one session. Credit may be applied to cards issued to patrons age 18 and under only and applies only to charges on overdue materials. Please bring your library card.
Read to Dogs
11 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 9
Practice your literacy skills with a furry friend. Children ages 6-11 years are invited to select a book to read aloud and then join our registered therapy dog and their owner/handler on the Storytime carpet for gentle pets and stories. Children can use this time to read down fines or develop a love of reading in a relaxed atmosphere.

Families are invited to visit the library to find out all that we have to offer our student patrons. We’ll cover the library’s digital resources, how your kids can get a library card, information about our afterschool programs/events, where to find our study guides and test prep materials, how to access our computers and more.
Energy EmPOWERment for Kids
4 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 26
Kids in grades K-5 are invited to check out the LCEC Zap-Free Zone. See electrical arcs and learn ways to stay safe around electricity in this interactive presentation. The Zap-Free Zone is part of the LCEC Energy EmPOWERment Program, which brings electrical safety knowledge to children throughout Southwest Florida.
Preschool Play Date
10:30 a.m. Wednesday, Aug. 27
Children through age 5 years and their caregivers are invited to a special play date. Meet new friends while developing early literacy skills through free play with games, toys and music.
STEAM Team: Magnetic Mayhem

Kids ages 6-11 years are encouraged to join us each month for STEAM Team where we will focus on one or more STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Art and Math) elements through fun, hands-on activities and experiments. While supplies last.

Students Working Against Tobacco (SWAT)
4:30 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 21
SWAT (Students Working Against Tobacco) is a statewide organization with an active, involved membership of middle and high school students that gives youth a voice to stand up to the tobacco industry. SWAT empowers youth to educate their peers about the manipulative tactics of Big Tobacco, so that together they can make a change for the next generation. By joining SWAT, teens can earn service hours, make a difference in the lives of others, gain leadership skills and much more. Members will be able to participate in games and snacks will be provided.
Teen Thursday: Squid Games
2 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 28
Think you’ve got what it takes to be the last one standing? Bring your game face for a Squid Games-inspired afternoon full of challenges to determine who splits our pot of candy. But gamer beware: fail a game and you’ll be knocked out of the competition. All judges’ decisions are final. Sign up either online in advance or in person the day of the event from 2 – 2:30 p.m. The games begin promptly at 2:30p.m. Open to ages 12-18 years.
