August Programs at Riverdale Public Library

Next month’s roster of activities at Riverdale Public Library offers topics for adults and children. The following activities are free to the public:

Adult Programs

Knit and Stitch

1 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 6, 20

A casual, self-guided group of knitters and crocheters join to share projects, ideas and techniques. Participants are encouraged to bring their own projects and tools. Basic materials and supplies are available for newcomers.

Book Discussion: “Poets Square” by Courtney Gustafson

10:30 a.m. Thursday, Aug. 7

An intimate memoir about the importance of community and care in a world that can feel impossibly broken – and a story about accidentally going viral while tending to a colony of feral cats.

Spanish Conversation Club

6 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 12

Are you ready to take your Spanish-speaking skills to the next level?  Improve your fluency by chatting with other adults. Join us as we practice speaking Spanish with others on a variety of topics. Intermediate to advanced Spanish-speaking skills are recommended in order to get the most out of the session. Come test out your skill level.

Explore Air Dry Clay

Session 1: 10 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 16

Session 2: 10 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 23

Explore the basics of creating with air dry clay at this two-part program. Session one will focus on designing and sculpting our clay projects. Participants will learn three fundamental clay-working techniques and have the opportunity to begin their own project, which will be left at the library to be completed and painted during the second session. All supplies will be provided. Dress for mess. This program is intended for adults ages 18 years and up. Registration is required.

Children’s Programs

Music & Movement

10 a.m. Friday, Aug. 22

This preschool music and movement program invites you to sing, chant, play instruments and dance while exploring sounds, rhythms and patterns that make up our language.

Baby Footprint Craft

10 a.m. Friday, Aug. 29

This creative experience is designed especially for babies through age 18 months and their caregivers. You and your little one are invited to create a one-of-a-kind keepsake by painting your baby’s footprints onto pottery. Supplies are limited, first come first served.

Lego Build

11 a.m. – 12:30 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 30

This is a fun, hands-on experience designed for school-age children, ages 6-12 years, who love to create, imagine and explore. This unstructured, drop-in style program encourages kids to use their creativity and problem-solving skills while building unique structures, scenes and inventions with Lego bricks.
