At the writing, I hope most of us are enjoying the Holiday cold snap—Florida style. In this issue of Voices of Lehigh, I hope to glance at the articles that Sheriff Marceno and Major Brenda Lane have prepared as we enter into the high season of the Holiday Season. Unfortunately, crime doesn’t take a holiday vacation, and during celebrations on a community scale, we need to be all the more vigilant with theft and other predatory activities that can ruin our holidays.
As always, each year, the community reflects on the blessings of the past year and the hope for the New Year. Major Lane, from the Salvation Army Lehigh unit, informs us that the need is great. This past year highlighted the housing and rental crisis that haunts us as well as the difficult market that property insurance faces—leading to even more homelessness due to out-of-range mortgages. Each year, one of our state senators, Senator Kathleen Passidomo, hosts her annual Pre-Session Luncheon. She represents a good portion of eastern Lee County, including Lehigh Acres. The other portion of our area is represented by Senator Ben Albritton, who has taken the gavel over from Senator Passidomo as the Florida Senate’s President. District residents are always welcome and information is included in this section.
