June 19th was a well-needed celebration after 15 months of a dark and punishing time for East Lee County and for our country. Because of the demographics of our area, the effects of the pandemic can be felt by families and businesses, but a brighter future is on the horizon, and we have much to be thankful for.
Business, Government, Education and Civic leaders came together for the Annual East Lee County Chamber of Commerce Awards Gala. In today’s Voices of Lehigh please take a look at this issue’s article about the Chamber. We are on the move with new partners and members from Gateway and other parts of Eastern Lee County as we strive to become a regional organization. For more information, please see www.elccoc.org or stop by at the Lehigh Towne Centre Chamber Welcome Center at 25 Homestead Road #41. Phone: 239-369-3322
For the past several weeks the Salvation Army has been collecting fans and air conditioners for what will be a hot summer in our community. No doubt the poor, the vulnerable and the elderly are at risk. Many organizations in our area have contributed to the Salvation Army here in Lehigh/East Lee County – fans as well as in some cases small air conditioners for those in need and in medical need. Give Major Brenda at the Salvation Army Service Center a call at 239-491-6071. Major Brenda provides an article in this month’s issue on information regarding the Cooling Program.
This month’s article from our Sheriff offers us an article on what is called “crimes of opportunity” and the rise of these crimes. With schools out for the summer, unfortunately there is a rise in these crimes. Be vigilant by locking your vehicles down and report suspicious activity by calling 239-477-1000 or for emergencies, call 911.
