East Lee Remembers Commissioner Frank Mann (1941–2022)

By Mike Welch

Lee County Commissioner Frank Mann passed away on Tuesday, June 21,2022 at his home in Alva after a battle with pancreatic cancer. All who met Frank knew him for his gregarious personality. Our condolences go out to his wife of 61 years Mary Lee and his family.

A lifelong resident of Lee County, he began his service in public office in 1974 as a member of the Florida House of Representatives for 8 years and a member of the Florida Senate for four years. In 1986 he was his party’s nominee for Lt. Governor of Florida. Over his many years of service on the Board of County Commissioners he had served as Chairman of the Board. His main priority during his time on the Board has been the preservation of our environment in the face of growth. Commissioner Mann represented District 5 that included Lehigh Acres and parts of East Lee.

Frank was a rare personality and yet he was part of a generation that remembers Fort Myers and Lee County at a time when small communities dotted the landscape. Heritage and traditions of this great generation remind us of a time of pioneers and our gratitude goes to Frank, the Mann family and those “old timers” that have helped shape our past and our lives today. Rest in peace Frank!
