Florida SouthWestern State College (FSW), in partnership with Calusa Waterkeeper, will host the second quarter “State of Our Water” meeting 9:30 a.m. to noon, Saturday, April 11, in Building U, Room 102 at the FSW Lee Campus, 8099 College Pkwy., Fort Myers.
This free community event will feature keynote speaker Dr. David Davis of the University of Miami Brain Endowment Bank, who will present “Algal Toxins & Alzheimer’s Disease: A Brain Bank Perspective.”
Dr. Davis will discuss emerging research on the relationship between environmental toxins, specifically algal toxins, and their potential role in the development of neurodegenerative diseases, including Alzheimer’s disease.
The event will also explore how exposure to harmful algal blooms may contribute to the onset of dementia and highlight strategies to reduce exposure and protect against neurotoxicity.
The event is free to attend, and participants are encouraged to RSVP in advance.
