The Southwest Florida Historical Society is pleased to announce that historian and author Gerri Reaves will be the featured speaker at the upcoming Speaker Series event on Thursday, March 13, at 7:00 PM. The presentation, titled “Scenes from Downtown History,” will take place at The Collaboratory, formerly the historic Train Depot, located at 2031 Jackson Street in Fort Myers.
Gerri Reaves has been researching and writing about the history of Fort Myers for over two decades. Local history enthusiasts will recognize her long-running column, Then & Now, which was featured in The River Weekly News for 18 years. She is also the author of several books, including Fort Myers, Then & Now and Legendary Locals of Fort Myers, both published by Arcadia Publishing. In addition to her extensive historical research, Reaves is a past president of the Southwest Florida Historical Society.
Attendees will have the opportunity to participate in a Q&A session with Reaves following her presentation, and she will be available for a book signing. This engaging event is a must for anyone interested in the rich history of downtown Fort Myers.
The evening will begin with a social hour and light refreshments at 6:45 PM, followed by the presentation at 7:00 PM.
The Southwest Florida Historical Society, an all-volunteer nonprofit organization founded in 1963, is dedicated to preserving and sharing the history of the region. The society operates out of its location on the campus of the Alliance for the Arts at 10091A McGregor Boulevard, and is open to the public Wednesdays and Saturdays from 9:00 AM to noon.
