The Lee Board of County Commissioners approved measures Tuesday to install a traffic signal, new lighting, upgraded drainage, and other intersection improvements at Lee Boulevard and Joan Avenue North in Lehigh Acres.

Commissioners approved a supplemental task authorization to an existing contract with Hardesty & Hanover for construction engineering and inspection consulting and awarded a construction contract to Horsepower Electric Inc.

The intersection improvements are being made to improve the safety and efficiency of the intersection between six-lane Lee Boulevard and two-lane Joan Avenue North. The project also includes ADA improvements, road markings and signs.

The project reflects the Board’s continued commitment to the transportation infrastructure in Lehigh Acres and countywide. Construction is expected to begin in December and be finished in about six months.
