The Lee Board of County Commissioners on Tuesday approved a $407,851 project to resurface 7.35 lane miles of roadway in central Lehigh Acres.
OHLA USA, Inc. will mill the existing pavement, level it, and resurface sections of Desoto Avenue, Willard Avenue, Henry Avenue, Edison Avenue, and Cortez Avenue. Funding for the project is included in the department’s current fiscal year budget. Construction is expected to take several weeks, during which residents may experience temporary lane closures and detours.
The Lee County Department of Transportation is responsible for maintaining approximately 1,500 miles of paved roads in Lehigh Acres. Resurfacing contracts are typically approved throughout the fiscal year, based on road conditions, traffic volume, and development in the area.
The county allocates roughly $5 million annually for resurfacing streets in Lehigh Acres. Roads are ranked and selected for paving according to a combination of factors, including pavement condition ratings, safety considerations, and the number of new homes constructed along the route.
Commissioner Trish Petrosky, whose District 5 includes Lehigh Acres, said the approval reflects the board’s ongoing infrastructure maintenance efforts. The county says it aims to keep roads in safe and usable condition for residents, commuters, and local businesses.
