The Lee Health Heart Institute is proud to announce a significant research breakthrough—enrolling its 100th patient in the groundbreaking LeAPPS Clinical Trial, an international study aimed at transforming stroke prevention for cardiac surgery patients.
As one of only 115 sites worldwide and just 10 in Florida, the Lee Health Heart Institute is at the forefront of this crucial study, which explores the effectiveness of left atrial appendage exclusion (LAAE) in preventing stroke and systemic embolism in patients with risk factors for atrial fibrillation and ischemic stroke.
This milestone cements the Heart Institute’s role as a research-driven, life-saving hub in Southwest Florida—bringing world-class clinical innovation to the local community.
