Next month’s roster of activities at Riverdale Public Library offers topics for all ages. The following activities are free to the public:
Adult Programs
Knit and Stitch
1 p.m. Wednesday, March 4, 18
A casual, self-guided group for knitting, crochet and other needle arts. Join in to share projects, ideas and techniques. Participants are encouraged to bring their own projects and tools. Basic materials and supplies are available for newcomers.
Book Discussion: “Mrs. Plansky Goes Rogue” by Spencer Quinn
10:30 a.m. Thursday, March 5
Mrs. Plansky is fresh off winning a thrilling senior tennis championship with her doubles partner Kev Dinardo and is gearing up to celebrate with him on his yacht. When the yacht is destroyed in a fire. Kev claims the fire was caused by a lightning strike but there’s one small problem – Mrs. Plansky didn’t see any lightning. Already certain there’s more going on than she’s being told, Mrs. Plansky’s curiosity turns to concern when Kev goes missing.
Horses and Human Cultures
10:30 a.m. Thursday, March 12
The close relationship between horses and humans has changed both. People have remade horses, creating dozens of breeds. But horses have also changed us. The ways we travel, trade, play, work and fight wars have all been profoundly shaped by our use of horses. This lecture will explore what a horse is, their evolution, anatomy, behavior and breeds. It will present the multiple roles played by horses in human history. Presented by José Juves.
Dungeons and Dragons
2 p.m. Saturday, March 28
Curious about Dungeons and Dragons? Join us for an afternoon of collaborative storytelling and strategy. From total beginners to veteran players, everyone is welcome to pull up a chair and join the party. Our guide for the journey, James E. Green III, will help navigate the rules and the monsters alike. Come for the game, stay for the community.
Children’s Programs
Family Storytime
10 a.m. Friday, March 6
For children through age 5 years with a caregiver. Enjoy books, rhymes, songs and activities. This fun and engaging program offers kids a chance to make friends and build skills through stories, music and movement. Caregivers participate with their children while learning helpful early literacy strategies and tips to continue at home.
Building Buddies
10 a.m. Friday, March 20
Through collaborative block-building activities, children will learn to share, take turns and work together toward common goals, laying the foundation for positive social interactions.
Lego Club
1 p.m. Saturday, March 21
This is a fun, hands-on experience designed for school-age children, ages 6-11 years, who love to create, imagine and explore. This unstructured, drop-in style program encourages kids to use their creativity and problem-solving skills while building unique structures, scenes and inventions with Lego bricks.
Puppet Playdate
10 a.m. Friday, March 27
Preschool children and caregivers can explore the elements of early literacy using puppets. Encourage imagination, phonemic awareness, vocabulary development and comprehension in a fun and engaging environment.
Teen Programs
Anime Hour
2:30 p.m. Tuesday, March 3
Enjoy an hour of anime entertainment, creative expression and lively discussions. This program is specially curated for anime enthusiasts to indulge in their passion for Japanese animation while hanging out among like-minded peers. Snacks provided and cosplay encouraged. For teens ages 12-18 years.
Nintendo Switch Teen Tournament
2:30 p.m. Tuesday, March 24
Teen gamers are invited to an epic gaming event. Whether you’re a seasoned gamer or just starting out, this program is designed to showcase your gaming prowess in friendly challenges.
