Lee County’s Wa-Ke Hatchee Recreation Center, which has been closed since September 2022 due to damage from Hurricane Ian, will reopen to the public with limited amenities at 7 a.m. Monday, June 10.
Flooding caused extensive damage to the building, which is attached to Lexington Middle School. Lee County has been working with the School District of Lee County through the FEMA Public Assistance process on repairs to ensure federal reimbursement for the work. Amenities are limited because repairs are ongoing.
The center, 16760 Bass Road, Fort Myers will be open 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday through Friday for summer camp. The gymnasium and game room will be open 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday and Sunday. Parking sticker and membership purchases may be made during open business hours.
Membership to the center is a one-time cost of $10 per individual or $25 per family for a lifetime membership. Membership entitles general use of the center including gymnasium activities and use of the game room.
Classes at the center, including Club Rec, the center’s popular after-school program will resume in August after summer camp ends. To register for classes as they become available, visit www.leeparks.org/register.
A grand re-opening celebration is being scheduled in the fall following the completion of the interior repairs. Check back to our website or social media channels for updates.
