Residents Urged To Participate In Local Elections

By: Maggie Cooper

Some American people focus most of their attention and interest on federal politics and the federal government. However, it is also important to pay attention to and be interested in state and local government entities that substantially impact our day-to-day lives. People can get involved by learning about the local government, connecting with other people in our community, and working together to make positive changes.

The East Lee County Republicans want to get people interested in and educated about local politics and community events that affect our day-to-day lives and can positively change our community.

The East Lee County Republicans meeting is the second Thursday of the month at the American Legion Post 323, 1124 Ashlar Ave, Lehigh Acres. Meal and social time are 5:30 Meeting is 6:30. Cash payment, there is an ATM.

Our speaker at the June meeting is David Mulicka, candidate for Lee County Commissioner District 3.

One of the local government agencies we are encouraging people to become involved in is the Lehigh Acres Fire Control and Rescue District Board of Commissioners. The residents of the LAFCRD are responsible for overseeing the board of Commissioners.  Let’s do our job.

Lehigh Acres Fire Control and Rescue District Board of Commissioners’ seats 1,3, and 4 are up for election this year. No one has filed for those seats, as of May 17th. The deadline to file is noon Friday, June 14th. Filing fee is $25. Residents living in the LAFCRD can run for any of the open seats. Commissioners are paid $500 a month.
