Next month’s roster of activities at Riverdale Public Library offers topics for adults and children. The following activities are free to the public:

Adult Programs

Spanish Conversation Club

6 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 2, 9, 16, 23, 30

Are you ready to take your Spanish-speaking skills to the next level?  Come test your skill level and improve your fluency by chatting with other adults. Join us as we practice speaking Spanish with others on a variety of topics. Intermediate to advanced Spanish-speaking skills are recommended in order to get the most out of the session. Registration is required.

Knit and Stitch

1 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 3, 17

A casual, self-guided group of knitters and crocheters who share projects, ideas and techniques. Participants are encouraged to bring their own projects and tools. Basic materials and supplies are available for newcomers.

Book Discussion: “The Float Test” by Lynn Steger Strong

10:30 a.m. Thursday, Sept. 4

The Kenner siblings are at odds. Jenn is a harried mom struggling under the weight of family obligations. Fred is a novelist who can’t write. Jude is a recovering corporate lawyer with a grudge against her former favorite sister, Fred. George is estranged from his wife and harboring an ill-advised crush on one of his sisters’ friends. Gathered after a major loss, each sibling needs the others more than ever-if only they could trust each other. Over the course of a sweltering Florida summer, the Kenner siblings will revisit what it means to be a family.

Arts and Crafts Makertime

10 a.m. – Noon Thursday, Sept. 25

Enjoy a casual drop-in crafting session with fellow adult artists and crafters of all kinds. Bring your own projects and supplies or get creative with our media and materials. Staff will be on hand to answer questions about our materials and recommend resources to enhance your skills or expand your arts and crafts repertoire.

Children’s Programs

Family Storytime

10 a.m. Friday, Sept. 5, 12

10 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 6

For children through age 5 years and caregivers. Families with young children enjoy a variety of stories, songs, rhymes and movement.

Bilingual Family Storytime

10 a.m. Friday, Sept. 19

For children through age 5 years and caregivers. This fun and engaging storytime for children and caregivers promotes and reinforces early literacy skills and language development. Stories, music, movement and activities are shared in both English and Spanish. English or Spanish language skills are not necessary to participate in this program.

Baby Rhyme Time

10 a.m. Friday, Sept. 26

For ages babies up to 18 months. Babies and caregivers wiggle and giggle in a supportive environment.

Mario Kart Tournament

1 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 27

Get ready to partake in fun and friendly Mario Kart races, where you can show off your gaming skills and enjoy some friendly competition. Whether you’re a seasoned racer or a newcomer, this tournament is designed to be fun for all levels. This program is intended for kids ages 6-11 years.

Teen Programs

Anime Hour

2:30 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 2

Enjoy an hour of anime entertainment, creative expression and lively discussions. This program is specially curated for anime enthusiasts to indulge in their passion for Japanese animation while hanging out among like-minded peers. Snacks provided and cosplay encouraged. This program is for teens ages 12-18 years.

Pep Rally Prep

2 p.m. Friday, Sept. 12

Get ready to show your school spirit in style. Teens will create their own wearable gear to rock at the school football game. From custom buttons to pennants and spirit signs – you’ll leave with bold, personalized items that scream team pride. All materials will be provided, while supplies last.
