Transportation Projects for Lehigh Acres

The Lee Board of County Commissioners took several votes on Tuesday, advancing key projects in Lehigh Acres and eastern Lee County. Among the approvals was a 4.2-mile sidewalk project along Bell Boulevard, aimed at improving infrastructure and safety in the area.

The nearly $3.2 million project along Bell Boulevard will go from State Road 82 north to Sunrise Boulevard and will also include:

  • Roadway reconstruction
  • Paving
  • Drainage improvements
  • Driveway replacement
  • Signs and pavement markings

Work is expected to begin in November and be complete next fall.

In other business, the Board voted to:

  • Adopt an alignment study to expand Sunshine Boulevard to four lanes from State Road 82 to 23rd Street S.W. in Lehigh Acres to connect with plans to extend Alico Road to State Road 82, which is a priority project for the board. The widening along Sunshine is the third phase of the project, with construction scheduled to begin in early 2026.
  • Approve a $1.5 million project to repave segments of more than 40 roadways in eastern Lehigh Acres, totaling 24.6 miles of roadway. Work is expected to begin in November.
  • Accept the donation of a Canal Crossing Easement from Lehigh Acres Municipal Services Improvement District that will accommodate the Bell Boulevard pedestrian bridge. The property is located along Bell Boulevard North over Jim Canal in Lehigh Acres.
