Medical practice to donate $25,000 to tournament
FORT MYERS, Fla. (March 18, 2021) – Classic Basketball, Inc. is proud to announce that Millennium Physician Group is taking to the hardcourt to team with the nation’s top high school basketball tournament as a presenting sponsor for the 48th Culligan City of Palms Classic.
Millennium Physician Group, a pacesetter in the healthcare industry, has donated$25,000 to the tournament that attracts the nation’s top teams and elite players to Fort Myers in December. The tournament sponsorship is another example of Millennium’s commitment to community and to events that showcase youth.
“The nation’s number one high school basketball tournament, the Culligan City of Palms Classic is clearly the premier community-based sports event in Southwest Florida,” Millennium Physician Group CEO Kevin Kearns said. “We are happy to not only support promising basketball talent but also shine a spotlight on our hometown of Fort Myers, the host of this tournament.”
This year’s tournament will be played Dec. 17-22 at Suncoast Credit Union Arena on the campus of Florida SouthWestern State College. A prestigious field of teams competing in the Main Bracket along with Signature Series and Sunshine Series games, as well as the Hugh Thimlar Tribute Game, are scheduled to be announced in June. This year’s event takes on an added level of excitement after the 2020 Classic was cancelled because of the COVID-19 pandemic.
Connecting its name once again to this event was especially important to Millennium this year as Southwest Florida continues its recovery. “We appreciate the sacrifices everyone on our team and across Southwest Florida has had to make during this pandemic, including the players last year who weren’t able to participate in this time-honored event due to its cancellation,” Kearns said. “Being a part of the City of Palms tournament is the perfect way to show our support for Southwest Florida.”
In past City of Palms tournaments, Millennium Physician Group was proud to be a Fast Break sponsor before upgrading its involvement this year. “The event is dear to my and many of our employees’ hearts whose children grew up watching, and being inspired by, the aspiring young talent on the court,” Kearns said. “I have many special moments watching the City of Palms tournament with our friends and family.”
Tournament executive director John Naylor is pleased to have Millennium Physician Group as part of the team supporting the event and its rich tradition. “Millennium’s participation in this much-anticipated event means the world to us and the teams and players who will be participating,” Naylor said.
