The Alva Garden Club announces its long running Plant Sale and Strawberry Shortcake Festival, a local tradition for area gardeners and those craving an old-fashioned sweet strawberry shortcake treat.
The event, scheduled from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday, March 9 at Alva Methodist Church, 21440 Pearl Street, is an opportunity to purchase healthy living plants at very affordable prices. Visitors can also enjoy a bowl of fresh strawberry shortcake and purchase baked goods made by Alva Garden Club members.
A variety of Florida-grown plants from club members will be sold, in addition to beautiful specimens donated from local nurseries. Plant varieties vary and are sold on a first-come first-served basis.
Homemade strawberry shortcake baked by garden club members will feature indoor seating, along with a large variety of baked goods to take home. In addition, visitors can browse a large collection of gently used books and a variety of craft and food vendors. On-site parking will be available.
Proceeds from this event allow the club to continue providing civic contributions in the community.
In addition to creating community enhancements, club members meet monthly between October and May for educational meetings and to attend area field trips to garden-related destinations. Visit alvagardenclub.org for more information.
