Benjamin Beyer always loved to cook, but what he loved more was serving delicious dishes to his friends, family, and even complete strangers.

His mom, Jill told his wife, Marissa that Ben was the only one out of her three rowdy Wisconsin boys who wanted to learn everything about the kitchen.

“He had a gift and passion for cooking and baking,” Jill said.

Benjamin has found comfort in the warmer, tropical life of Fort Myers, specifically Gateway. He and his wife have two daughters, Vanessa and Julia and live a modest life in the Gateway community of Eagle Pointe.

Benjamin became known as the neighbor who always had a leftover meal to share. When Ben and Marissa moved to Gateway in 2021, Ben made sure to host cookouts with his neighbors to enjoy his famed cedar plank Salmon, BBQ Chicken, or steak skewers.

In November 2022, Ben faced a health scare. Prior to the scare his wife noticed Ben had become extremely tired, thirsty, and was having trouble holding his own balance just walking around. Marissa urged him to go to the doctor and get tests done. He did and it saved his life. He was rushed to the hospital shortly after the tests and was diagnosed with a blood glucose level so high he was close to entering a diabetic coma. Ben stayed in the hospital for seven days. When he got out he was on insulin. Did you notice the “was?” It was from that moment on, Ben made it his mission to get off that insulin. Less than 7 months later, he was completely off insulin. Ben’s levels are perfect and even his doctor’s are impressed he essentially “beat” diabetes.

So what’s next for Ben? A Micro-bakery. Ben still loves to cook and bake and of course make people happy with food. Ben and his wife, Marissa have started a Micro-Bakery, out of their home right here in Gateway called “The Bald Baker: Micro-Bakery.” Ben’s passion and drive for making delicious sourdough loaves and boules. The bakery is just starting out, but he has quite the following on social media and Gateway neighbors are talking,

“The best sourdough you will ever have!” said Amanda Elwell, an Eagle Pointe resident said online.

When asked about how he started baking bread and creating sourdough, Ben said “I got tired of spending money on bread at the store, I figured I can make it better myself. Turns out I have a knack and after handing out samples to our neighbors and at my job, I decided to start a micro-bakery. Food unites people, so Happy eating!

It seems remarkable how he got here. From hosting cookouts with neighbors and friends to facing and overcoming a health scare and to now, still fostering that love for cooking and baking, but venturing into the business world with a sense of connection.
