Adult Programs
English Café

Free, informal conversation sessions for adult ESOL/ESL students.
Be Red Cross Ready
1 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 7
The American Red Cross will present this course designed to teach people how to prepare for and respond appropriately to disasters likely to occur in their community such as hurricanes, wildfires, tornadoes and more. Registration is required.
Book Discussion: “A Farewell to Arms” by Ernest Hemingway
3:30 p.m. Monday, Sept. 9
The story of a volunteer ambulance driver wounded on the Italian front during World War I, the beautiful British nurse with whom he falls in love and their journey to find some small sanctuary in a world gone mad. Join us for a discussion of this classic work.
Chess Anyone?

Rise to the chess challenge and join the fun. Chess enthusiasts of all ages are welcome. Bring your own chess set or use one of ours.

11 a.m. Tuesday, Sept. 10, 24
Receive personalized help downloading e-books, movies, music and more from Overdrive/Libby and Hoopla, two of Lee County Library System’s largest online content providers. Bring your fully charged digital device for this hands-on help session. Note: Please bring any passwords you may need for downloading apps. Kindle users will also need an Amazon account and their password for accessing it.
Knit and Stitch
5 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 11, 25
A casual, self-guided group of knitters and crocheters that gather to share projects, ideas and techniques. Participants are encouraged to bring their own projects and tools. Basic materials and supplies are available for newcomers.
East County Craft Club: Pine Cone Wreath
2 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 14
This month the East County Craft Club will get ready for fall with pine cone wreaths. Each crafter will start with a plain grapevine wreath and then affix pine cones using a hot glue gun for a stunning display piece. Registration is required. This program is intended for ages 18 and up. In person attendance closes 15 minutes into program.
BARD Drop-In Session
11 a.m. Monday, Sept. 23
Registered users of BARD, the NLS Braille and Audio Reading Download service available to Talking Book users, can get personalized assistance and learn how to access books, magazines, and music materials in audio and electronic braille. Join us for expert guidance on utilizing BARD or BARD Express. Bring your fully charged devices for a hands-on help session.

Geocaching
1 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 28
Come enjoy geocaching at your library. This event is open to all levels of geocaching experience, from first timers to experts. Geocaching, a treasure-hunting sport using GPS-enabled devices, is family-friendly and fun.
Children’s Programs
Baby and Toddler Storytime
10:30 a.m. Tuesday, Sept. 3, 10, 17, 24
For children through age 36 months and caregivers. Wiggle and giggle with your littles during this interactive storytime that uses stories, music, movement, and rhymes to support early literacy skills. Each program offers helpful strategies to continue encouraging language and motor skill development at home.
Build-It: Racing Day Vehicles
3 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 3
Use your imagination to build amazing things. Join our new Build-It series, where we challenge you to use our engineering toys to create a 3D structure inspired by a monthly theme. For September, we’re challenging our builders to create a racing vehicle. Finished builds will be put on display until next month’s Build-It event. This program is intended for children ages 5-11 years.
Family Storytime

For children through age 5 years and caregivers. Families with young children enjoy a variety of stories, songs, rhymes and movement.

Racing Day: Little Racers

Zip and zoom around the Storytime Room with toy cars and handmade racetracks. For ages 2-5 years.
Read to Dogs
11 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 14
Join us at the library for reading to dogs. The dogs are registered therapy animals who volunteer with their owner/handlers as a team to help improve the literacy skills of children. Children can read down fines or just develop a love of reading through reading to dogs.
Racing Day: Off to the Races – Elementary
3 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 17
Can you build the fastest car? Come test your skills and creativity at the library. Build, test and race your own cars against friends. Challenge your friends at Mario Kart while waiting for your turn to race. For grades K-5.
Sensory Play: Exploring Primary Colors
10:30 a.m. Thursday, Sept. 26
Enjoy a special sensory playdate that promotes social skills, fine motor skills and helps develop early literacy skills. Sensory toys, activities and music will be available to encourage a fun bonding experience for families and for children to make new friends. This program is for ages 2-5 years.

Library Teen Talk

High school teens are invited to the library for a weekly discussion about current events, everyday life, library resources and more. Teens will be encouraged to post an answer to a weekly question while socializing and making new friends.
Teen Thursday: Teen Advisory Group (TAG)
2 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 5
Be a part of the East County Regional Library’s Teen Advisory Group (TAG) and help make your library’s teen area the place to be. TAG members assist with program planning, suggest book titles, and help create displays in the teen area. Service-learning hours and light snacks will be provided. For teens, ages 12-17 years.

Cooking Matters provides a flexible, hands-on lesson to develop a love for cooking and the skills to make healthy food choices. The program includes meal planning tips, activities, handouts, recipes and food sampling. Open to teens ages 12-17 years. Sorry parents, the sponsoring agency allows this program to be attended only by those 17 and under. Space is limited to the first 20 participants.
Teen Thursday: Acrylic Pour Painting
2 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 19
Let your creativity flow and create a unique abstract masterpiece using the art of acrylic pour painting. All supplies provided. For teens in grades 9-12. Space is limited to the first 40 participants. No registration required.
Middle School Game Day
5 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 24
Compete in our Mario Kart racing bracket. Open to all middle school teens. Bring your own snacks and covered drinks to enjoy during the event. We’ll also have board games, video games, card games and more on hand to play. For grades 6-8.
Teen Thursday: High School Game Day
2 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 26
Play board games, video games, card games and more at the library. Open to all high school teens. Bring your own snacks and covered drinks to enjoy during the event.
