Pardon Our Dust!

If you happen to have been visiting our VFW Post 4174 in Lehigh Acres lately, you will have noticed a few strange trucks, some workers traversing all around the site and even a few ladders hugging the side of our building.  There have even been people walking around the entire roof working.  And of course, with all the rain, the grounds work is picking up and the mowing is being done far more frequently.

Since our post was founded in 1967, the building is in need of a few repairs and some upgrades too.  Much of the work being done is commencing with the help of many of our members, but there are a few chores which need to be outsourced, hence the new flow of vehicles.  Our kitchen is getting a newer air conditioning uplift which will help offset some of the heat flowing into our dining room and canteen.  Our volunteer cooks will be ecstatic when this is completed.

Several gutters have been replaced, the new smoking section is ready for its inception beginning August 1st and we will be experiencing some heavy duty scrubbing to give the place the good spit and polish, which was learned by our members while in the military! A good sized parking lot is in the rear, and the entrance is right under a new red canopy. We have had a few adjustments made to the dining room to accommodate the bowling games and are planning on starting up bowling leagues.  The good thing about this league to join, you don’t have to be a great bowler, just a person who wants to have some fun!

But, even with all the extra movements, our normal activities will not be disturbed.  We are still opening at 9:00 a.m. Monday thru Saturday, and at 8:30 on Sundays for our great breakfast.  We have  our lunches Monday to Friday from 11:00 a.m. til 2:00 p.m. Our meetings are on alternate Tuesday evenings for the Post, the Auxiliary, the Riders and in September, the DAV will reconvene. The first Wednesday of the month is for the CTS meeting.  On Monday evenings we have the ever popular Show Me the Money game, Wednesday is a different dinner with entertainment each week, Thursday is regular Bingo beginning at 6:00 p.m.

On Fridays, we have dinners and afterwards there’s Karaoke and dancing for those who want to shake a leg.  Saturdays we have a Hillbilly Bingo twice a month starting at 2:00 p.m., a special dinner once a month and the kind of music which will get your feet moving.  Bar food is available all day and into the evening.

Any other happenings or special events would be listed separately and to find out about them, either stop in and grab a calendar, read the huge calendar on the wall, or give us a call at 239-369-5100.  Our address is 25 S. Homestead Road.  Remember the public is always welcome and we’re always happy to meet our neighbors.  Stop in and join us sometime!  You’ll be glad you did!
