Letter from Karyn Edison
Hello!
I am a retired teacher and principal of a private school (also my small business of 38 years) that served as the academic model for Olympic athlete schools. I became involved in local school board struggles, noticed the disconnect between the board and the public’s needs, dove deeper into the records and found problems not evident to the public eye. As we near the Primary election when school board members are often decided, I feel it is my civic duty to alert the voters of District 2 there is a stronger option.
Appearances are not reality.
Glossy literature and well-chosen words distract voters from actualities. While student achievement declines and teacher shortages rise, why re-elect a school board member who has been part of that system? When fiscal conservancy results in a 7 million dollar overrun on a bid to upgrade school locks, why vote for that school board member to return for more mismanagement? Our school system deserves a school board member able to give full time and effort, not distracted by running a real estate business, and serving as state committee woman. Two-term School Board member Melisa Giovanelli is not performing and should be fired.
District 2 has a better choice. Carol Frantz can devote her full time and attention to restoring a fiscally sound school system, reversing the decline in teacher and student morale, and prepare for the anticipated growth in enrollment. She believes public education can be 1) the foundation for a thriving economy, 2) a place where technical programs alongside college prep can exist in Lee County, 3) the place to expand experiences to live in a multicultural community, and 4) a safe setting to interrupt the cycle of loner/bully dynamics. Vote smart. Vote for Carol Frantz.
